The Future is Industry
The Gulf Industry Forum
February 2013

The 2ND Gulf Industry Forum provides an additional opportunity for businessmen and industrialists from all over the region and internationally visiting the Gulf Industry Fair to exchange information, views and opinions about the future of industry in the Gulf.

The inaugural Forum in 2010 laid the foundations of the Gulf Industry Forum to be part of HCE's vision to develop Bahrain as "davos" of the region by gathering leading global and regional experts to debate their views on industrialization.

The 2010 Forum featured His Excellency Dr Hassan Fakhro, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa, Chairman, General Organisation for Seaports (GOP) both from the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Leading Saudi industrialist Dr Solaiman A. Al-Twaijri, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Saudi Arabian Amiantit Company delivered the entrepreneurs view of 'The Future is Industry'.

Other speakers included Mahmood Kooheji, Chairman of Aluminium Bahrain (Alba); Faisal Al-Mahroos, Acting Chief Executive, Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) ; Praveen Kadle, Managing Director, Tata Capital; Nicholas Moy, Chairman, Gryphen Investment Bank; and Ameet Shah, Co-Chairman & Director, Astonfield Management Inc.

The Gulf Industry Forum provides the platform for constructive dialogue and ideas among key decision makers and industrialists in an environment of debate and unfettered by distractions of self-promotion to obtain contracts.

The massive continued investment by GCC governments coupled with the fact that the price of oil has recovered to what are considered to be realistic levels, makes the future of industry in this region both sustainable and exciting. The industrial manufacturing and services sector will see outstanding growth opportunities over the next few years and this positive vision of the future for the region is the background for our vision for the Gulf Industry Forum.

The 2013 edition of the Gulf Industry Forum will focus particularly on the following topics :

" POWERING INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT"
Will consider the use of Energy and Commodities for Industrial Growth. How will the economic planners deal with issues of scarcity , environment and monopolistic strategies of mineral resource acquisition around the globe. ? Will any industrial downturn affect the energy sector in the GCC Region?

" THE INDUSTRIAL WORFORCE"
Vocational training and education to meet the changes of demands of industry is vital to industrial competitiveness. Are modern programmes really the same as they were 50 years ago except dressed up in modern jargon? Is the globalization of workforces and skills leading to national labour skill deficits?

" MARKET INNOVATION AND CREATING INDUSTRIAL AND MANUFACTURING BUSINESSES"

New products and innovations are market opportunities for industrial development. What new products are looking into the market. What difficulties will any industrial expansion face in the future. Have Financial Models also become innovative to match industrial innovation?
